Walk By Faith
… for we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7 NA
Over the holiday I spent some time with my son and his wife and daughter. Lily my granddaughter just started walking a few days before Christmas so when we arrived she was still in that wobbly stage. She would toddle around so sure of herself and then she would tumble. When she fell she would scoot over to a nearby table or person to help her stand up, then she would toddle off on her merry way again.
We are a lot like Lily in our relationship with God. We toddle around so sure of ourselves until we fall then we turn to God to help us get back up again. This method works for the child learning to walk, even for the child learning to navigate through life. As God’s children we toddle on our faith walk and through life like we know what we are doing and don’t need anyone to rely on, even God. That’s not
what God wants for us.
With the start of a new year I have been thinking a lot about resolutions and goals for the rest of my life. When I read my devotional this morning I realized that one of my resolutions for the year and my life had to be when I fall to turn to God, when I’m walking along with no obstacles and steady on my feet to turn to God, to say thank you.
I have a new sign that is sitting on my desk where I can see it every morning. It says “Good morning. This is God, I will be handling all your problems today. I will not need your help. So have a good day! I love you!” This is my New Year’s Resolution, my new mantra for life. I will turn to God for all of it, the good the bad, the joys, the trials, all of it.
Time to walk by faith and not by sight.
Dear most holy and awesome Jesus, I want to walk
by faith not by sight. Remind me each day to give it all to you, for without
you I cannot do it on my own. Even when it looks like I am please show me the
error of my ways and remind me that I need you in my life. Thank you for all
you have given me, for the life you have helped me to live. This I pray through
your most gracious and loving son, Jesus. Amen.
Happy New Year and God Bless,
Chris
